3 Medicare Mistakes That Will Cost You
Understanding the complexities of Medicare can be a daunting task, but knowing how to be a savvy Medicare shopper will save you money and headaches in the long run. At AMAC, we strive to empower you to take control of your Medicare by keeping you in the know.
So, if you are doing any of the following, you’re probably paying too much for your Medicare plan.
1. Not Using An Insurance Brokerage
If you go through a local agent or the same company each year and they aren’t offering you more than one insurance provider, chances are you don’t know ALL your Medicare options. Your doctor network, copays, and other out-of-pocket expenses can vary greatly from plan to plan. Be sure to do business with someone who can compare more than one insurance company and plan type to make sure you are truly getting the best deal.
2. Picking The Same Medicare Plan As Your Friend
You could be doing yourself a disservice if you pick a plan based on what someone else has. Everyone’s needs are different, and chances are you don’t take the same prescriptions or see the same providers as your friend. So why pay more for benefits that you won’t use? Keep your options open and look at more than one insurance carrier so you can find coverage tailored to your individual needs.
3. Not Shopping Around Throughout The Year
If you have a Medicare Supplement, also known as a Medigap, prices can change throughout the year. Only shopping around once a year may cause you to miss out on lower premiums or even new discounts that weren’t available before. Some people think the only time they can change their Medigap plan is during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), which happens every fall from October 15th to December 7th, but this is not the case. You can change your Medigap any time throughout the year (but medical underwriting may apply).
Are you guilty of making these mistakes? If so, don’t fret! You could be just one call away from saving money on your Medicare plan. As a brokerage, AMAC offers multiple plan types from many different companies. You can see how your Medicare plan stands against others in your area. Plus, if you decide you want to change plans, we can help you switch all on the same phone call! No need to thumb through paperwork or mess with the fax machine. Our services are always complimentary and there is never any obligation to buy.
